In order to reduce the scarcity of food on the 0110 hand and to increase tfic land available for settlement on tho other, tho German Government has suddenly turned its attention to the reclamation of barren lands. The area of barron land yet to bo found in Prussia alone is estimated at not less thnn 3,705,000 acres. Between 1850and 1918 approximately 1,970,000 acres were brought under cultivation.
