CONFERENCE OP OFFICERS,

With th'e view of co-ordinating and improving the- work of tho Post nnd Telegraph Department, the Acting-Secretary (Mr. A. T. Markman) has convened a series of conferences of the responsible officers of the Department from various parts of tho Dominion. The first, conference, that of inspectors, is now in session under the presidency ot the thiel Inspector (Mr. J. Lnurenson). The whole of Wednesday and yesterday were devoted to the reading of papers by officers controlling the various branches ot tUe service, the requirements of the engineering, accountancy, postal, .telcgrnplnc, nnd stores divisions, being in that manner clwirly Placed before the conference. An important contribution to the.conference ■as a paper rend by Mr. J. (officers- representative on the Promohon Board), dealing with the reports requied from inspectors in order to enable the board to carry out the work.of piomoHim on merit with satisfaction, ine conference is now in committee discus,bearing upon the standardsation of the methods of inspectors.
