J[r Bailey, a Labour member of tho Legislative Ass-ambly, gave evidence thftt lie had a conversation with Tal'bot early in September. The latter told him he had contributed .CSOO to tho Labour Party fnnds. Ho later received a letter iroin Talbot in which the lattor staicd that he had met Johnston (who is also a member of tho Assembly), who asked him what übout shutting the matter up. lnlbot raid lie would like it closed on account of Georgoson's wife. Johnston askcd for XIOOO, but agreed to tnkp £XO. Ho later met Johnston, who said he_ and Doolov, Chief Secretary, had come to try to sot money from him. Dooley was not present. Ho gave Johnston .£4OO and posted Mm tho other hundred. Talbot gave evidence that he gave tho money for Johnston's personal election expenses, and the "shutting up" menHoned in the letter referred to abuse by the Labour Party on the hustings of Georgeson and himsolt.
