HEADMASTER ENTERTAINED
FUNCTION AT KOSENEATH. Ono oF the largest gatherings yet held in flic Koseneath district assembled last evening in tho schoolhou'se for t»> purpose of farewelling Mr. Robert Darroch, who has been for the past eleven years, the headmaster of the Eoseneath . and TTataitai primary , schools. Mr. Darroch was recently appointed to the. charge of training Public Service cadets. During his term' of olfico Mr. Darroch took a very keen interest in tho outdoor life of his pupils, and in addition to the educational side, made it his business to look to the welfare of his pupils in every way.
Last evening's gathering was presided over by Mr. Van Borssum, who expressed tiis regret at the prospective loss of Mr. Darroch from the school. Under his cure, (mid tho speaker, the school had, progressed. and Mr. Dnrrech would long lie remembered as a capable and painstaking headmaster, whose stuff had found it a pleasure to work with him. Tho chairman of the Wellington Education Board' (Mr. T. Forsyth) referred to tho work of Mr Darroch as an educationist, and said flint while the board was sorry to lose his services, it realised that he was takImr over a very responsible position, to which ho would do full justice. In the "onrsn. of "his address, Mr. Forsyth said tTiat ho considered the teaching service M<l tTio m<yst important part to play in the/Public Service, and deserved better conißtions.
Mr. A. On lwhalf of the scholars, the headmaster was presented with a pair of binoculars, and bouquets for Mrs. Darroch, and with ft handsome cheque from the residents of the districts served by the two schools.
In his reply, Mr. Darrocli eongratulatod his teaching staff, mentioning especially Misses Davidson and Bird, and com. plimenHng them on their loyal and efficient service. He had always had the interest of the school at heart, witli the desired result. Ho was jrreatly pleased that so many old boys were present, and lie regarded'this as a great compliment. During the evening musical items were Riven by Mr. L. A. Warner, and. Mis?e« Nancv 'Cnshman, Bonnie Ross, I'. Prenderviile, M. Stevens, If. MidUme, M. Prenderville, and the scftool choir, under Miss Davidson.
