November 29, 7.25 p.m.) London, November 29. ' Eighteen fires broke out in Liverpool and nine in Bootle, the area extending over several miles. . Th<y Sinn Feiners carried out the plot with skill and daring. Each building was allotted to four or livo men, apparently strong, athletic youths well coached in tho task. One kept watch in each case, while others picked the locks and cut through padlocks with boltcutters, of which a number w°ro found on the burning premises. They thus removed tho iron bars from the warehouse doors. Motor-cars were evidently used to convey petrol, of which considerable quantities wore used. In. most cases the fire had a firm hold on tho buildings before the brigade arrived. The brigades had so many calls that Liverpool called in Birkenhead, Warrington, and St. Helens to assist. In so mo cases fluart bottles of petrol wore found in burning buildings, a number of whioh wero cotton warehouses full of. valuable stuff. Lvcn In cases whoro the buildings were saved great damage was dona owing to gutting. The damage lum not beon ascertained, but it is estimated at hundreds of thousands sterling. . The police are overwhelmed with demands for special protection of offices and warehouses. Apart from tho man arrested Ted-handed in Bootle, four others have been detained. The man captured when Ward was killed refuses to diffikise his identiy, but ho Iras a strong Irish brogue. The police believe tho plot is due to outsidors, as the Liverpool Sinn Feiners were well known ami considered to be unequal to this effort.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
