BOYS' INSTITUTE
SOCCER SOCIAL. Tho annual "soccor" social and presentation of prizes in connection with the Boys' Institute Football ClulV wns held on Saturday evening, and was largely attended. Sir. G, A. Troup occupied the chair. Prior to tho supper a concert programme was provided by the following:— Songs, Misses Mavis King and E. Butler, Mrs. Pitchor, and Messrs. Sumner, Bing, and Bitossi._ A Dutch dance was given by_ Miss Bitossi, and recitations by Misses Butler and Flan, while. Miss Beadsmoro presided at the piano. After supper the toast of tiie Boys' Institute was proposed by Mr. A; E. Wells, of the New Zealand Pootlxill Association, who congratulated tho .officials on the wonderful growth of the' institute of recent years. The toast was responded to by tho president, Mr. Troup, wbo stated (hat the present live-story building was too small for the institute activltiw, and it was intended to erect a. separate boarding establishment on the adjoining section recently purchased for thn.t purpose. Mr. A. Williams, secretary o£ tho Wellington Football Association,. prrsented the Charity Cup to the captain (E. Jef- *&) of tho 4th Grade team. Mrs. J. Hislop, president of the Ladies' Auxiliary, presented tho following me.dnls as well as 28-, swimming certificates:—Third Grade (six a side tournament): E. Bently, T. Barr, H, Hanson. L. Calvert, G. liyan, C. Rusterhnlz.' Medals. 4th Grado: W. Nicol audi H. Wn.nden; 4th B. -Erie Pawe; sth, A. F. Nelson; sth B. "W. GrauhandV siih C, T. Allen; 6th C, I>. Coronno; 7th C, A. White; Bth, F. Tyson. I The director (Mr. J. W.. Butler) presented a cricket ball, suitably inscribed, with a silver shiold, to Roy Compton, who secured ten wickets for nine runs at the Basin Reserve on Saturday, November 13, in. a match against St. Peter's Club. L . i During the evening an opportunity was given to extend a weilcomo to Mr. Banks, who has recently returned from a visit to tho Old Country. Mr. F. Ross, in extending a welcome, spoke of tho great work of Mr. Banks in acting as coach to the various cricket and "soccer" teams. A very pleasant gathering was brought to a close by singing tho National Antliom.
