IRISH LAND BILL
TO PRACTICALLY ABOLISH LANDLORDISM PROVISION FOR COMPULSORY PURCHASE (Br Telejrapa-PreJß Assoclation-Oop jriehJ ffiec. November 21, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 20. The Irish Land Bill, which.is complementary of the Homo Rule Bill, will practically abolish landlordism. It does not touch land purchased under previous Acts, building land, or land not exceeding .£2OO in vahie on which the owner resides or cultivates. The estimated total value of land subject to compulsory pur- ■ chase under tho Bill is .£70,000,000. Landlords will be paid by 5 per cent, bonds, redeemable by periodical drawings. The Bill will.not be proceeded with this session, and will not be operative until thirty months after it is passed.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. The Galway Council has decided to repudiate the Dail Eireann, and to comply with the requirements of the 'Local Government Board. Asquith, spoaking at a luncheon at the National Liberal Club, ' eaid that during the last six months Ireland was in a state of civil war. The truth was that,' since the establishment of reprisals, British justice had been placed in the background, and. vengeance was enthroned. The Executive allowed itself and its sen-ants to become iihe ministers of a policy.of blind, pitiless, and indiscriminate revenge. MICROBE MURDER PLOT
PAPERS SEIZED AT UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR'S HOUSE. (Rec. November 21, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 20. The seizure of papers regarding. the microbe murder plot was made during the search of tho house of Professor Hayes at tho University College, Dublin. The soldiers suddenly heard the movements of an unknown man, whose presence in the house had been concealed. The man escaped in bis nightshirt,' droppins- from the window and climbing a trail ten feet high.. An attache case found- in his room showed that ho was the Chief of Staff of the Republican Army. A military cordon was imiuedintely thrown around the quartor, but without result. Professor Hayes was ar-rested.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. KIDNAPPING OF FATHER GRIFFIN QUESTION IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. (Reo. Devlin asked for information regarding' the alleged kidnapping of Father Griffin., m Galway. ■ , : Sir Hamar Greenwood said he refused to believe that the military or police were .responsible.
