The first life-size stntue to be carved in granite in New Zealand has been completed by the New Zealand Coromandel Granite Co., Limited.' The statue is that »f a Now Za'and infantrv soldier standing with reversed arms, the uiuz/.le. of his rifle resting on the toe of liis boot. It was designed bv an English sculptor, Mr. H. 0. Gross, who is at present in Auckland. Tho niodei was copied in •Coromandel granite by Mr. J. G. Jensen, whose chiselling work on such a difficult class of scone is specially praiseworthy. The statue is being forwarded to Clive, Hawke's Bay.—"New Zealand Herald." y w
