Australian Buildings, at the corner of Elizabeth Street and Flinders Lane, ; Melbourne, have been sold for £94,700 to the Australian Provincial Assurance Association, Ltd., whose Wellington Branch is situated in the Bank of New Zealand Chambers ;Te Aro Branch, Manners Street. The building is a substantial structure of eleven stories, comprising some 120 offices and 6 shops and | large basement, and returns in rentals £10,000 per annum, increasing to £11,000 j in January next. Australian Buildings are well known as the highest buildings \ in Melbourne. They were erected in 1899 by the Real Estate Bank, and, including the land, which realised at that timeaome £80,000, stood in the books for £153,000. The cost of construction was thus £73,000, and it is safe to say that this construction would now cost double that amount, or approximately S £150,000. Probably the total value of the building and land could be estimated at £200,000, so the A.P.A. has made a fine investment.
