PACKER SENT TO PRISON
■ A SERIES OF PETTY THEFTS... William Lewis, a packer and etoreman, who had been, in the employ of J. J. Curtis and Co., forwarding -agents, for aperiod of two years up to November 5, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday- morning to a series of prtty thefts of cutlery, serviettes, pillow slips, table lineu, etc., of the total valuo of £19 10s.. ' . • Cbief-Detectivo said that the accused left the service of Curtis and Co. on November,s, and from certain information received by tli.it . firm the police were communicated with. Tho accused was interviewed and his premises searched, and the goods .named in the charao were fouud. Accused's wases were £5 per week, he was a married man with thireo children, and there was nothing previously knqwn against him. Mr. J. O'Donovan, who appeared for the accused, said that , this was a of a man giving way to sudden temntallMr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., who heard Hie cafe, said it! was not a sudden temptation for there were a series of thefts. J[r. O'Donovan stated that apensrd s present employer was wiling to keen him in his employment. The Magistrate, saul there was far too much thoft going on iyid it must be stopprd, He would take into consideration the man's previous good conduct in fixing the penalty. Lewis, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. - ,
