"SAVE THE CHILDREN"
'.-.-" —■ —* " A. BOYAL LEAD. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), chairman of the'executive committee of the Save-the-Children Fund, said at a meeting of ".the-executive -yesterday afternoon that the appeal was one whioh should touch „ •nd move the hearts of all people who •rt-ished to relieve the misery of Buffering children. The central head ,of .the fund was His Majesty- the Kins, Mid others closely associated with this humanitarian work were,- the Lord-Mayor ■of London, and men eminent in British ■statesmanship.- The faota, as shown by 'British investigation, proved that there ■was full justification for helping the stricken children of Europe. Therefore, the executive would continue its work with the greatest enthusiasm. The Hon. Dr. Collins (vice-chairman) remarked that th? assurances of the. British Bed Cross and other organisations, 'which had the confidence of the British public, were sufficient guarantee to Wellington ' people that the cause was well 'worthy of their support. On the motion of tho Mayor, tho executive adopted a resolution urging the citizens of "Wellington to give a sum of money that would he a credit to the .community and an undoubted blessing to the children for Tvhorii the gift was i . urgently needed. * ~„, . , I . The secretary (Mr. B-. Hilt.) reported that teams for working the busmen I area of the cjty had been ozonised by | the "Wellington Returned Soldiers' Asso- I • ciation, the sports bodies, the Central I •'Chamber of Commerce, St. John's I Church, tho Advertising Club, and other | bodies. There was other evidence that i the appeal for the children was not being f mnde in vain. | Tho Boya! lead in the Mother Country | has been followed here by the' Kings I representative, Lord' Jellicoe.
