Eoplying' to representations ti'om Veitch, Jf.P., regarding the influx of a hundred Indians via Fiji, Sir William llerrics states that the Collector .of Customs nt Fiji has been advised that Indians will not be permitted to land unless they are in possession of a special permit granted by him. Those actually bonked through from India must be permitted to land under tho old conditions. T« Awamutu, November 18. The Returned Soldiers' Association nt To Awamutu, in view of the influx of Asiatics into this district, has recorded its protest against the inactive policy of the Government. The association views with alarm the. possibility of the intermingling of tho Indian and Maori races, and therefore asks the Native Minister to obtain*information whether this is taking meeting decided actively to oppose tho advent of Chinese fruiterers in tho town. The Masterton Returned Soldiers' Association has written to i(he Masterton Borotifrb Council protesting against Hindus being given licenses to hnwk in the borough. Councillor M'Lood moved that in future no license be given to a Hindu to hawk in' the borough. The mwn clerk pointed out that there wan no need for a Hindu or any hawker to take out a license. Councillor Watson pointed out that the Hindu to whom objection was taken had obtained his license six months ago. The motion was carried aftier the Mnyor and Councillor M'Leod had spoken strongly in support of the.request of the Returned SoJdiers' Association.
