COUNTRY V. TOWN
IN THE MATTER. OP PRIMARY EDUCATION.
A letter was received by the EducaiSon Board yesterday from the Waiotohe branch of the' Farmers' .Union, suggesting an interchange of certificated teachers from "the wwns with those not'necessarily eo well equipped in the country. Mr. C' I Harkness (Horowhenua) said that undoubtedly the country children were at a disadvantage. .Jffldl possibly that led to the migration of many country people to the towns, in order to gain those educational advantages for their children.. If it could be brought nbont, the suggestion of tho Farmers' Union, might be given some consideration. Mr. W. T. Grundy suggested the appointment of a second organising teacher to meet the requirements of the small country Bchools. Mr. R-. A. Wright poi.nibd out that tliero was another side of the story. That was the difficulty in getting board and residence. If the farming people who were now interesting themselves in this matter, would put themselves out of the way to rectify this the question would be simplified. It was decided to write ilo the Farmers Union 011 the lines indicated by the various sraakers, pointing out wliat was being done in respect to model schools and: tho point for consideration respect!ing the appointment of a second organising The chairman did not think if, was likely that the Department would increase the capitation (as suggested bv Mr. Penney) from the present Xl 5. A motion to the above effect was duly passed. . . Mr. C. I. Harkness pointed out that in his district they did find accommodation for the teachers, and did their best! to entertain them in their homes.
