4 A brief sitting of the Magistrate's Court ,wes held yesterday morning, Mr. W. u. Biddoll, S.M.. being- ou the bench. Charles Styles and William l'rincc pleaded guiity to unlawfully trespassing in n, railway carriage in the ThorndoiL Station yard on Monday, but not guilty to a second charge of damaging .a pane of glass (value 195.) SubInspector Emerson, in asking for 'a remand until Tuesdav next, said that there was a. woman mixed up in the case, fyr he alleged she was in- the railway carriage with the two. men. The woman had already appeared in Court, and had neon remanded to Tuesday. The remand was granted. Styles was allowed bail in JEW and one surety of £40, and Princo in £20. and one surety of £20. FKTONE SITTING. The monthly sitting of the I'etone Magistrate's Court was held -yesterday, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., presiding. ; For a broach of his prohibition order, T. M.'lntouh was fined £1 and costs 7s. Louis Carbine, who pleaded guilty to the theft of a pram, was convicted aud fined £5, in- default one month's imprisonment, liesides paying witnesses' expenses, £1 45., he will be required to refund £1 2e. to the second-hand dealer to whom he sold the article. t «. Trespassing on the railway line cost 11. Bekeu and Eliza. Everett each 10s. and costs 7s. For riding motor-cycles on the Hutt Road cycle track, the following were each fined 10a. and 7s. coßts:—H. Doden, A. B. Glaridge, C. P. Crane, It. Dimock, and H. Mercer.
A breach of the traffic by-law iu failing to provide hiß motor-lorry witti to liffiit was responsible for E. J. Solomon's being fined £1 <iud cb3ts 7s.
J. J. Fair, who rodehis motor-cycle through Jackson Street at a speed dangerouß to the public safety, was fined and coats 7s. Fdr a similar ollcnco 11. M'llvrido was fined a like amount.
Failure to provide their bicycles witn lightod lamps after sunset cost R, Hop* per, C. Smith, and J. Swayßland each 10s. and 7s. costß.
Ellen Moore (for whom Mr. Anderson appeared) was charged with selling underweight bread. It was submitted that defendant, being the distributor <ind not the producer, was unaware of the weight of tho loaf. The Bench held that the public had to be safeguarded, and inflicted a ftuo of 405.. with costs 7b. Mrs. Smith, also charged with selling underweight bread, was similarly.penalised. It was stated by counsel that both defendants had received their supplies from the same baker.
For exceeding the speed limit, Ellis Harper and A. Scoon were each fined £1 and 7s. costs..
T. Burt, who had been given notioo to have his premises connected, with a drain in 1918, was firfed 4Gs. and costs 7s. for failing to comply with the request; Tenement coses which came up for hearing were dealt with*as follow:—
E. Wilson was ordered to give up possession to W. Ilalford in one month's time, and pay costs, 16s. Owing to a flaw in tho notice to quit. Mabel Tetley was non-suited in her action acainst, 0. Linetip.ni. Costs, £1' Is., were allowed acainst plaintilt. In tlic caso Terrence M'Keo v. W. Kydd, an order was refused.
In each of tho following cases orders, for possession in one month's time were made:—Hattcrsby v. Sievcrs; Halllgan v. PeMierbridce; J. W. Parker v. J. Dowsett; and 11. Waddineton v. F. W. Ansell. F. K. Futter (Mr. .A. Pere), \itio desired the eviction from a house owned by liini ot I. Brown (Mr. N. A. J. Darker) on tho ground of defendant's failure to keep tho tenement in proper order, was non-suit-ed, and an order for possession was refused. Costs, £1 ls„ wcro allowed.
