A meeting of ratepayers was held in Gi'ovtmvn on Monday ovening. when tlio Mayor (Mr. W. A. Button) put the matter of loans to the amount of .€H,onfl before the' meeting. These- were divided into- Drainage, .£10,000; water, .CiKiO; and gas, .62500. The Mayor pointed out the necessity of raising these loans for tiie completion or amplification of (ithe present works. Regarding the drainage loan, .£BOOO of that amount was to lend to householders to-put in the drainage system. At present out of 26(5 housed within tlio area only 70 were connected up, and out of 300 houses for water supply again the small number of 102 only wwo using it. The proposals were carried nt the meeting, and a poll will Inko placo to-day.
