TARATAHI-CARTERTON RACING CLUB

, STEWARDS' MEETING. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.* Carterton, November 15. The stewards of the Taratnhi-C'arter-ton Boeing Club met at Cartc.ton . on Saturday afternoon, Captain Gage Williams (vice-president) presiding. ,A statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent race meeting was submitted by the secretary, and the result was considered very satisfactory. The profit on the meeting was ■£72-4 10s. 7d. (.£3O over the previous year's record). The Government taxes amounted to Xll3O os. 3d. Beferenco was made to the totalisator inspector's annual report and' the mention of inadequate accommodation at many-of the totalisator houses. The drain, upon the club's finances by Government taxes, together with the compulsory increase of stake money in accordance with the totalisator receipts, left (it was said) very little for small clubs to spend, on improvements. The secretary mentioned that this was the last year that fractions would go to the. clubs, and said that if the rule in regard to stakes applied next year's programme would have to be increased to .£1570, as against J;1390 for the last meeting. The Masterton Racing Club was accorded a vote of thanks for the use of a, jockey box. and Messrs. Dalscty and Co. were thanked for the use" of offices. Tho treasurer reported that the gate employees at tho Inst meeting had expressed dissatisfaction at the rate of pay, and it was decided to grant an increase.

Accounts totalling £\Hi 15s. sd. were passed for payment. The chairman mentioned that polo was going again in the Wnirarapu, 'and that there was a prospect of a suitable groundbeing mndo on the grass at the course. He desired to know if there would be any objection to this. The meeting decided that there would "bo no objection if the arrangements dirt not interfere with the operations of the club. The matter was left to the ground committee to confer with the Polo Club and report at a future meeting. Two new members wero elected.
