BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS. . , The Petone Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. Permission was 'granted the Junior Club Amateur Athletic Club to use the Recreation Ground for evening nnd occasional Afternoon meetings. . Provided that tho fixture does not interfere with the local cricket matches, tbe Petone. Municipal Band are to have the ground for a garden party on November 20. After considerable discussion it was decided to increase by ss. 2d. the wages of two caretakers and four labourers, who hod presented a. requisition to the council, and to make the minimum wage for labourers £i 4s. 4d. In the case of the offico staff, the borough inspector is to receive an inoreass of 55., the rates' clerk a similar amount, the gas clerk 155., and the typisto ss. 3d. A requisition signed by the secondhand dealers in the borough with regard to the closing hours of their shops, asking tho council to certify to the same, was forwarded by the officer in charge, Department of Labour.—lt was decided that the town clerk certify to same, nnd forward it to the Labour Department. Advice was received from the clerk, Hutt County Council, to the effect' that it was the intention of the council to exerciso section 119 of the Public. Works Act for the purpose of providing the cost of the rebuilding of Paknratnhi and Rrofaw Valley bridges and culvert, etc., Riniutaka Hill Road. It was proposed that the Petone Borough Council contribute 10 per cent, of the cost of tho work. The County Council had resolved that a conference of local bodies be called for Monday, November 29, at the county office, Wellington, to discuss the when it was hoped thafi representatives from the Petono Council would attend.—With reference fo the first portion of the communication it was resolved that formal objection be lodged on the ground that the allocation set against tho Petono Borough Council was oxcesaive. Tbo Mayor and Councillor Cox were appointed the representatives. '
