A feat that proves Carter to be one of the finest illusionists of the day is the one in which he- causes a full-grown lion to dis- • appear from sight. The Grand Opera House was agaiu packed last night, and. the performance will be repeated tonight. ST. LEON'S CIRCUS. The Inst five nights' of St. Leon's Circus are announced, w-hilei on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons there will be a special matinee. Amusement seekers who desire to see the circus have thus only seven more opportunities ere the combination leaves for. an extensive tour of the North Island, tho first week's towns being advertsied in another column. The attendances at tho big marquee have been large at each performance. The management 'advise intending patrons that it will save a good deal of needless crushing if they are at the ticket offices at least an hour before the advertised time of starting. , '■ . > ADELAIDE VAN STAVEREN. To-night, at the Town Hall, Miss Adelaide Van StaveVen • will give her third operatic- song-recital, and the booking points to the likelihood of a very large audience. Since her previous Wellington recitals this delightful singer has completed!a.'tour of the Dominion, and on all occasions has repeated tho artistic success achieved at her Wellington con- ' certs. Whether it be the passionate declamatory excerpts from grand opera, the devotional majesty of oratorio, or the simple love ballad. Miss Van Staverrn lives her song, and so carries her audiences with her into the dreamland of the composer's inspiration. ■' To-night's programme is a very attractive one, and will throw new light on Miss Van Staveren's versatility of mood and interpretation. Mr. Matthew Dixon will accompany and support the singer. Box plans are at the Bristol, and day sale tickets may bo purchased at the "Blue Bird," Manners Street; "BING BOYS ON BROADWAY." The box plans for the coming J. C. iWilljamson revue attraction, commencing Thursday next, "Tho Bing Boys on Broadway," will bo opened at the Bristol at - 8 o'clock this morning. Judging by tho exceptional interest being taken in the revue, a big-house is anticipated. Mr. Phil, Smith will be. seen as Lucifer Bing. Mr. Reginald Roberts as "Hon" Williams, and Messrs. Gus Bluett. Herbert C. Walton, Harry Paulton, and Sydnev Culver are also in the cast. Miss Edith Drayson. an English artiste of distinction, is also prominently placed, wifih Misse3 Maggie Dickinson, Gwen Burroughs. Maie Baird, and Gwen Ives. Tnere will be a matinee on Saturday afternoon. CALEDONIAN CONCERT. The concert 1 , organised by the Wellington Caledonian Society;, to be given in the Town Hall to-morrow evening, lias attracted a great deal of attention. The society has secured some very popular artists, and is presenting a programme that should appeal to all tastes. In addition to gems from grand onera by General -Ivan Tarbayeff, the Russian 'tenor: Mrs. John Eraser, soprano; Mrs. Tvo Symes, contralto-, and Mr.-Fred G. Bourke. baritone, will be heard in such favourite numbers-as "Douglas Gordon," "Aliens MacDonnld," and "Scots Wha Hae." Master Fred, Sober, the young violinist, will play ' the "Intermezzo" from "Cavalleria Rusticana," and the Harmonic Quartet will sing "Mary." The societv's orchestra and champion dancers will also contribute to the programme, and ivhe accompaniments will be in tho capable hand's of Mr. Harold Whittle. The plan, at the Bristol, is filling rapidly.
