Evans, mrtnagcr of tho Now Zealand Farmers' Distributing Company, was elected n member of tho committee in succession to Mr. if. B. Iggultlen. The question, of the purchase of 19 acres of land, offered by tho Associated Auctioneers' 'Association, with a view to the future requfrcmonts of tho showgrounds, was considered at a meeting of the fjrounds Committee earlier in tho day. On tho motion of Mr. G. K. Perry, it was resolved that although a portion of the land offered might bo useful, tho committee felt that in the face of tho uncertainty of the financial outlook; they could not recommond tha purchase at tho present timo. --It was inought that the ground- was not' of a suitable nature- for (ha grazing of stock in February, and that with a little rearranging of tho existing ground there would be ample, room for cars for' some considern'blo timo to come.
