MEETING OF CREDITORS
A meeting of oreditors in the bankrnpt estate of Thomas .Lockwood. butcher, of Upper Hutt, was held yesterday afternoon. The Official .Assignee (Mr. S. Tansley) was in the chair. • The statement tiled by bankrupt showed that the sum of ,£4OO 17s. 3d. was ow.ing to. unsecured creditors. Tho assets comprised book debts, MS 19s. 2d.; furniture, £5; surplus from securities held br secured creditors, ,£246 Bs. lid. This left an estimated deficiency of <£105 9s. <d. The secured creditors wero:— Repatriation Department, .£233 13s. 9d.; G. A. Palmer,' J!B3. 1 ■ Tho Assignee stated that, when the estato was realised tho dcfioiency would probably be about .£3OO. Under examination, bankrupt said that he hlid had to start the business JSN)O of hlo own, and this was supplemented by an advance of J!300 from tho Repatriation Department he' being a returned soldier. He purohased the business from G. A. Palmer in July, 1019, for .£6OO, .£IOO remaining on mortgage. For a time the business brought in a profit. In "February last he tonkin a partner. The latter had since "cleared out," and bankrupt alleged that he had failed to account for the sum of £884. This involved bankrupt in difficulties.
