UNITED STATES MEAT MARKETS
Messrs. E. Arlow and Co., Ltd., have received the following report from the United States Bureau of Markets under date New York, October 2:— "The general market conditions, downward price trend nnd generally unsettled conditions of the previous week's fresh meat trade were continue_d and intensified, to 6ome extent at all of the eastern markets. Supplies of lamb and a lower grade of beef accumulated, re-, suiting in sharp decLine and a degree of demoralisation. "With the arrival at New York on September 27 of the steamer Hororata from New Zealand with a _ cargo of 191,876 lambs, total importations to date this year wore increased to 1,6H,622 carcasses. Although the hulk of the cargo went direct to cold storages nnd were not offered for sale, the trend of prices on domestic offerings continues downward, closing mostly 3dol. below one week ago, with common grades lower in spots. "A generally slow demand featured the mutton trade during the week, followed by gradual decline in prices." '
