i i. AN ALTERATION IN THE FINANCE BILL. An amendment to the Finance Bill was introduced in the House by _ Message yesterday afternoon. Sir William Herriis (Minister of Pensions) explained that, the amendment was proposed in the interests of the old-age pensioners, some of whom, if the Bill were not altered, would receive less than they were at present receiving. Clause 8 of the Hill amended section 13 of the Pensions Act of 11)13, so that It read as follows: "13 (i) If the applicant for a pension or the .renewal of a pension is married, the following provisions shall apply: (a) Tn .computing tho ni'xiunf of the tension of husband or wife, tho net capital valuo of all the accumulated prop.ity of each shall be deemed to ho half the total net capital value of all the accumulated property of both, i (b) The yearly income of each shall bo deemed' to be half the total yearly incomes of both, provided that the amount of the pension of cither of thorn for any year shall in no case exceed such sum as with the total actual incomes of both of them for the. year, and tin; pension (if any) thou already granted to the other of thorn, will umnuut, to .£l2O for the year." Sir William Hemes moved that tho amount, of .£l2O should be increased to ,£l3O. The amendment was agreed to by both Houses.
