SHIPPING FREIGHTS
PRODUCERS' COMMITTEE TO MEET. An. inquiry roncernin<; the action, if any, that tho Government intended taking' in connection with the recent icpovt of tho Agriculture and Stock Cbmmitteo in regard to shipping freights was put by Mr. AV. H. Field (Otaki) to tho Fnnio Minister yesterday. The farmers and producers, raid Mr. Field, were looking to the Government to protect them and to secure a reduction of freights to reasonable limits. Mr. Masscy said that he had very littlo to add to what he had already snid on tho .matter. A very representative meeting of producers was held in 'Wellington some time ago to consider .shipping mid other matters. • When the session -ci-me to an ond he proposed to meet the committee set up by that meeting and discuss tho position. Meantime he had cabled to tho Imperial Government pointing out that there was a good deal of dissatisfaction in this country in regard to tho rates proposed by the sliipping companies. Every man in touch with the position agreed that tho.rates would vtiy'seriously affoct the producing industries. He had not yet received a reply to l:i3 cablegram.
