TRAFFIC IN THE CITY
PROPOSALS FOR- REGULATION. Important proposals regarding the regulation of traffic in, the city were made to the City Council last night. Tho By-laws- Committee reported that it had reeeive'3 reports from the City Engineer and the Chief Traffic Inspector with ', reference to the question of traffic control in the city. The committee recommended that the City Engineer bo authorised to. make arrangements for the erection of signs in the main thoroughfares where he considered it advisable to indicate crossing places for pedestrians; the signs to be illuminated at night and coloured in such a way as to lie noticeable during hours of daylight. The committee also recommended the council to take- into consideration (ho appointment,of a body of men to take control of tho traffic in congested street* of the- city not at present controlled by the police. The report was adopted.
