The monthly meeting of the Board of ; Managers of the Petone Technical' School , was held on Wednesday evening, the i chairman (Mr. 1). M'lvenzie) presiding. Mr. Meldriim, who was recently ap- ] pointed representative of the Lower ' Hutt Borough Council, was welcomed ! to the meeting. The following dona- J tions wero received: Goar Co., .-C25; IV \ tono Borough Council, JC3O; and Lower , Hutt Borough Council, .£25. During thj; course of a disoussion on : tho now ' scheme of the Public Service Commis- < sioners, whereby backward cadets re- ' ccive education at tho expense of the Government, members referred- in ap- ] preciative terms to the proposals. One i member pointed out, however, that to I somo extent they put a premium on in- 1 efficiency, os lads, entering the service ' fully trained, had lo devote their full time to work nnd received very little more than others who had neglected I their education and who now put in part of their time receiving tuition ; at the expense of the Department. t t
