Mr. John Piouse, the well-known baritone of Wellington, is leaving on a visit to England and the Continent by ths Corintliic this week.

Dr. Hugh Douglas, who recently resigned the position of superintendent of the Waikato Hospital, alter 21 vears' service, was presented by the Wnikalo Hospital Board with a handsome illuminated address. Mr. J. I'. Bailey, chairman, in making the presentation, said Dr. Douglas had the fullest confidonco and rpepect of the board, and had gained the affection of the whole district. They sincerely regretted his resignation. Other members and tho board's officers endorsed the chairman's remarks. Dr. Douglas, in replying, mentioned'' Mat whon ho took charge of the hospital it hnd 13 patients and a staff of scvon. When he left tho institution there wero 259 patients.
