ADDRESSED BY AMERICAN AUTHORITY. At a special meeting of tho New ZenL'uid Priesian Association, held at Palmerston North this week, Jin address was delivered by Professor H. H, Wing, of the Cornell University (U.S.A.), who is touring New Zealand for the purpose of studying the dairying industry. Referrin" to Hie Priesian Association of tho United States of America, Professor Wing stated that the organisation had begun in quite n small way, and had grown until to-day it. was the most popular of tho four breed Associations. In 1891 they had commenced their system of testing under the Babcock method, which had proved highly successful. Whilst touring New Zealand, Professor Witig remarked, he had taken a great deal of interest in the Priesian cattle, and had come lo the conclusion that, the Dominion had good foundation animals, and in time would build up as good a line of cattle as anywhere olse in tlfo world. 'He added Mint the success of any one breed of cattle depended upon the 'knowledge of the capacity of each individual animal. If. was resolved to confirm the followin" resolution passed at the annual meeting: "That, the number of the council be increased by two, making the total number twelve,, four of whom are to retire each year." Sixty new members were elected. WOOL PROFITS FIRMS' EXTRAORDINARY RETURNS London, November 4. Tho interim report of the accountant to the sub-committee investigating tho wool profits reveals extraordinary statistics. It shows that one firm made thirty-five times more profit than before the war. or nearly twenty-five times more after deducting the excess profits duty. The least successful firm examined by the accountant showed four times its prewar profit after deducting tho excess profits duty—Renter.
