MANAWATU SHOW PEOPLE'S DAY FURTHER AWARDS OF THE JUDGES By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent Palmerston North, November '<■ Although the 35iili Spring Show of the Manawatu and West Const. A. and P. Association opened under adverse weather conditions, matters improved on the secojjfi, day, while for to-day, "People's l)uy," tiie weather was line, although .1 strong wind was blowing, and the attendance formed a record for the association, over 20,000 people being present. At the time of the parade of stock, the stand win overcrowded and the grounds were congested. On the whole, the show has been most successful, buii probably owinfir to the backwardness of the season 1 several classes in cattle nnd sheep did not show the quality represented af Inst year's fixture. Considerable improvement had been made in the arrangements, result boards being provided in all ths rings, which gave visitors a good opportunity of knowing wJiat was going on. Tho 'pnrndo of prize-winning stock was most creditably carried out, and was a. very fine exhibition. During the afternoon Messrs. Walsh Bros', aeroplane, with Captain liussell as pilot, carried out a number of stunts over Hi'- ■"•numls CUPS AND TROPHIES. COMPETITIONS. The juvenile ovents for boy and girl riders brought out fair ciafs&j,. nnd Homo fair riding was shown, especially by the girls. The maidon lady riders' event introduced soveral new aspirants, nearly nil o{ wliom handled their mounts in promising style. Miss E. MacNiven, of Havelock North, was first, and also succeeded in getting a place in the open competition, with Miss Voi'a MacMillun (Levin) second, and Jliss A. It. Nelson, of Havelock North, third. For the open class, best lady rider on tho flat, there was a good field of ten neatly, riding- in the most approved style, in spite of the fact that some of the horsed were difficult to handle, being a little above themselves. Miss C. Bryce, of Kiwitea, was placed first, Miss M. Briggs, Auckland, 6eco»d, Mrs. Graome, of Hastings, third, witli Miss G. Mahor of Hastings, fourth. Of a field of six in the best walking horse, only the placed animals showed qualifications for that usoful paco in a journey horse, and Mr. J. Brine's (Marton) Bill was first; Miss G. Mailer's (Hastings), Batchelor second; and Sir. l'\ "" Wallis's (Carterton) Mototrix third. The competition for ladies' and gentlemen's hacks brought out somo very good pairs, and after a eloso contest Miss G. Mailer's (Hastings) liomeo and Batchelor wore first, with AV. liaymnml's (Havelock North) second, and J. Brice's (Jlaeterton), Bill nnd Jioyal Star third. The class lor best lady rider over jumps brought eight experienced riders, all of whom were well mounted. The jumping was good all round, and with eo many accomplished equestriennes, awarding the prizes was a difficult matter. Eventually Miss G. Maher (Hastings), on Bateiielor, was awarded first prize, with Miss C. Brice, on Twilight, secufid, Miss M. Briggs, Auckland, third, nnd Miss E. , double, and brought out some very clever jumpers. Unfortunately, Miss (j, Jlnhor, u'f Hastings, had a fall, resulting iu a sovoro shaking. Her usually Bate mount, Homco, stopped at the fence. ' and geßTng entangled in the wire, came over on top of his ridor. W. J. Simpeon's (Marton) Mae, a very stylish mid safe jumper, was an easy first, with F. LnirdV (Hunterville) Hailstorm second, and Budge Gordon's (Dannfcvirke) TJtilitv third. The champion open hun.ers competition brought out a field of eighteen, and =01110 interesting jumping was witnessed. 1' I.nird's (Hunterville) Hailstorm gained first place with H. Hassel's (Hastings) Vicky Freo second, and W. J. Simpson's (Marton) Mac third. The winner was the only horse to mako a 1 faultless round. In li»ht horses, Mrs. G. D.
