The staff fled, and the police intervened. The crowd indulged in stone-throwing, window smashing, and the looting of shops. Similar disturbances occurred in two other mining tow;)s in Hie district—A us - N.Z. Cable Assn. THREATENED STRIKE IN FRANCE _ GERMAN JITNEBS' SYMPATHY. Amsterdam, November 4. The "Freiheit," discussing the threatened coal strike in France, points nut that tho miners' position, may be'difficult, because France is receiving Ger-. man coal.
