RED CROSS ORGANISATION
THE CONFERENCE AT GENEVA,
Mr. Bernard Tripp, of a '™ r ?> r " h ° represented the New Ztialand -Red. .Crow Society at the International Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, has returned to New 7tfftlaiid. In an interview, he stated that hitherto the It«d Cross organisations of the various countnos (tw*entj r B.veii nations vere represented at, the conferenoo) were emergency ibodira for wnr ■purposes, something auxiliary toflie iMf"'cal Corps. the chief, inderd tlifj most important point decided at the confererice, was that the should continue to work for good of humanfly and welfare of this children m. times of peace. There were suoh' things fs district .nursing:,• hospital work, training of staffs in factories, and general hygiene, which such a big organisation could undertake. Tho only qualification was that such work was not to be token up _at the expense of soldiers who fought in-the Inte war. If th'c eick or wounded were still there to be- attended to, they must have the first call on the E«d Cross.' Mri Tripp said that Geneva w«6 a delightful city, and thfe-people were charming in their manners and most hospitable. There was no affectation,or "side with anyone, and all seemed to be quite happy, contented, and prosperous. It was, perhaps, tho most democratic of cities in the world. The President of Switzerland arrived in Geneva durinf the conference, but there was 110 one in particular to meet him and no ceremonial, and ho drove off to his hotel in oil); of the ordinary taxis. Switzerland flourished during the-long-war. It made something out of both sides, and was now very rich and independent. The German population of thjo country had increased enormously during the past five years.
