THE PROVISION FOR PENSIONERS

The House of Representatives rose after 4 a.m. yesterday, after passing the Education Bill, and sat again at mid-day. The Prime Minister made a further statement regarding the provisjon proposed for pensioners ajid incapacitated soldiers. He stated definitely that the financial situation would not allow him to accept further claims upon tho Treasury.

Some amendments to the Housing Bill were introduced by Governor-Gen-eral's Message in the House of Representatives in the afternoon, and were incorporated in tho Bill. One amendment gives harbour boards authority to borrow money for the purchase of land and the erection of dwelling*.

The debate on the Marriage Amendment Bill was resumed by the House- In the afternoon, and was continued in tho evening. The question under discussion wag the report of tho special committee recommending that the clause added to the Bill by tho Legislative Council, dealing with validity of marriages, should be agreed to. ' Many vigorous speeches were made on both sides. The Prime Minister, speaking late in the evening, warmly denied that the Government had been influenced' by tho Protest.inc Political Association in connection with tho Bill. The debate was continued into the early hours of this morning.
