I i; A LABOUR MEASURE WARMLY OPPOSED u.. .The Legislative Council passed tlie Bank of New Zealand Bill yesterday, without discussion. The Council passed also the Botorua Town Lands Bill, granting the right of freehold to lessees of sections in Rotorua. • A clause in the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bid, introduced by the Minister of Labour, occupied the House most of the afternoon. The clause provides for tho registration of new unions in industries already represented by unions, and tho Labour members stated that its effect would be to break up the existing unions. The Minister undertook to withdraw the clause, but members "talked" out tho report of a committee on the Bill.
The Native "Washing-up" Bill was discussed by tht? Houso during the evening. Tho Minister of Education explained the Education Bill later. Ha 'reiterated his refusal to spend publlic money, in the form of scholarships or grants, on any but State schools. Tho Bill was discussed at the second readiifg stage until after midnight.
