NEW ZEALAND TRADE
LAND VALUES BASED ON WAR PRICES
DANGERS OP A SLUMP
Bt Ttlearash—Pre«i AMoetatton-Oosyrlfbt (Rec. November 3, 8.35 p.m.) London, November 2. Mr. It. W. Dal ton's report on New Zenland trade in 1920 says that New Zealand's past and present prosperity is due largely to war conditions. This fact ehould be fully taken into account in anticipating tlio immediate future of New Zealand's economic growth. There lias been little development in the means of production to give a bigger output, lire prices of land which have been ruling have been based on returns at prices which have been obtainable during the war. If these prices are maintained the position is sound, but fear.? are entertained in many quarters that thero may be a slump in prices, so that lands purchased at war values may become unprofitable. This is. a weakness in an otherwise strong position. There does not. seem to be much' cause for pessimism. It seems not uplikely that .New Zealand will bo given time to just herself to the new conditons before a slump conies.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
