His Honour Mr. Justice Salmond, with' Messrs. W. M. Hannay and T. Bwaa as assessors, hoard a olaim for cmpeiasation yesterday in tho Supremo CVwrr. The. claim was based on cliuses in tht Public. Works Act, and whs made by a 'Wellington merchant, T. W. Youiiif, : against the Wellington Education Board Claimant asked for .£16,850 for ] laud taken by the board at the wiener i of Elizabeth Street for educational purposes. Tho Education Board was represented by the City Solioitor (Mr. J. O'Shea) and Mr. A. de B. Brandon, while Mr.rT, Neave appeared for tho claimant. ' The facts of the case showed that the ■ land in dispute was tho property of Mr. T. W. Young, sen. Situated in Elizabeth Street, at the lower end, it ! flanked both sides of the .street, and had also a frontago on tho eastern side to Brougham Street.
