STONE QUARRIES AMENDMENT BILL
« . HEIGHT OF BOCK-FACES." Tho Prime Minister last night moved the second reading of the Stone Quarrios Amendment BUI. Ho explained that 1 the- Bill was introduced because of fatal Occidents that had occurred during the past year. The height of rock-faco where quarrying might go on was reduced from 20 to ten feet. The inspector was empowered to Stop quarrying operations when they appeared to involve inimediato danger to Bifo. Mr. D. Jones (Kaiapoi) asked whether tho ten feet limit would apply to ordinary gravol pits. Mr. Massoy replied that he thought it would. Mr. Jones considered that 15 feet would bo a reasonable height for the faco, and several other members supported his contention. . Mr. Massey: Well, well; make it 15 feet, and soo how we got on. The second reading was carried on the voices. The amendment promised by Mr. MasBoy_was mad« in committee. Tha Bill was rend a third tim«, and paused.
