A Revere reprimand and a warning not to let the misdemeanour ocffnr again was administered to a visitor to Madrid \Uo, when ho assisted his wife.into a cab at tho door of. his hotel on the Pucrta-del-Sol, kissed her good-bye. • A policeman on duty close-by witness•ed the offence and remonstrated, threatening, to take tho man to tho police station, whereupon', the yisttor-a travoljcr in many lands-smiled and said: Do your worst Take me to the station house and ■ we'll seo what the punishihont is for kissing one's wife;" ' ■_ ■ The policeman.led.him off to face his captain, who, on hearing the nnture of the chnrge, was even more severo; than i'lie ordinary.policeman. He informed the offender that ignorance of the' law. was no excuse, but that ho had committed 1 a serious offonco against the laws' <;f Madrid, which forbid a man to kiss ony woman whilo in tho streets of tho city, with or without her consent. He, however, let him off with a caution.
