WATERSIDE WORKERS' UNION
THE EMBARGO ON JAPANESESHIPS. Mr. L. Glover (president) presided ovor the monthly -"stop-work" meeting of watersiders, held'in' X store yesterday morning. A letter-was received from- the Transport Workers'' Advisory Board stating that a communication had been received from the Australian transport workers, urging affiliated unions to take concerted action against the employment of Jap-anese-owned and manned steamors in the intci'-colonial and inter-Stnto trades. It was decided by the meeting to support the Advisory Board in any steps it deemed fit to take. It was dccid«l to wait on. tho Minister of Marine and ask tlwt.a reconimondation be gazetted in regard to the competency of men appointed, to the position of foreman on the waterfront. In the opinion of the meeting, some mou wero being appointed to tlieso positions who .were not competent. A deputation, "onsisting of Messrs... l. Briudle \. 'J- r-*i. and W. W. Coilfiins, Was instruct<-.i.'.» interview'the Tram-ways-Traffic /'.;, .«»r ankinir for a better service during, the lunch hour and after 10 o'clock at night. Mr. V. C. Webb addressed the meeting. He urged members to take shaTes, either individually or collectively, in the "Grey Hirer Argus," the only Labour daily newspaper in New Zealand. The nntter will be considered at the next meeting. Air Williams, representing the Broken ffill 'miner*, also addressed tho meeting, anking for further support towards tho funds.
