BATTLEFIELDS MANY OF THE MISSING DISCOVERED By Tolegraph-Presa Association-Copyright London, October 31 Mr. Monty Grover, the "Sun" correspondent, has just conipleSed a study of tho graves from Amiens \to Poperinghe. Ho was impressed ■ l>y the magnificent devotion and spirit of the hundful of diggers, mostly IDU men, many of whom have been decorated, who have stayed behind to engage in the work of locating and identifying their dead comrades who otherwise would be labelled as missing. ■ The task of exhumation is difficult and trying. The actual extricating of tho bodies is carefully done, but_ is tbdiuns work "Where the discs are missing the workere sorutinise every portion of vhe clothing- and body, noting even tho bone formation and dental work. The magnitude of the achievements is astounding. A considerable number of tho missing have been found. Twenty-five •were discovered last week, and about fifty weekly are found around the northern area of Poperinghe. Since Australia lias taken control nine boclie9 liavo found ill an area marked "cleared" by the British. At garrison headquarters tho diggers relate a striking story of the careless work of the British searchers. Particulars on a cross disagreed w : ith the Department, records, and in exhumation revealed another man. A systematic search has resulted in CO or 70 Australian graves being found to bo wrongly marked. The French peasantry are giving great assistance without payment on ifne grounds that Australia has done much for France, though feeling runs high against Britain because supposed leniency to Germany —•Aus-N.i.
