THEFT OF SUGAR

' ■ Auckland, November 1. ,Two carters and a shipping foreman, employed on the wharves, were arrested, and are to be charged with being concerned in the theft of sugar from the Chelsea Refinery between March 31 and June 30, during which period'forty tons were,reported! to be missing. The Colonial Sugar Company has offered a reward of JSOO for evidence leading to a conviction.
•At the Police • Court, in connection with the robbery of in transit from Chelsea Refinery. Charles Lilliwall, foreman in charge of the wharf deliv-ery-of the New Zealand Express Company, and Francis George Forbett, lighterman. wero- charged with the theft of sugar valued at .£O2 3?.-5d., and remanded on bail of .£l5O each.
Edwin George Thompson (grocer), Valentino, Townsend (carter), Charles John Anderson (carter), «iud Edward I'\ Bowden (carter) were charged with receiving tho stolen sugar, and wero remanded on bail, Thompson in ,£l5O, and the others- in ,£1(H) each.
It is alleged that the thefts form part of a total of 400 tons of sugar that is missing. The police are stated to be on the track of the other portion.
