OPENING OF RECONSTRUCTED CITADEL.
The opening of the reconstructed Salvation Army Citadel in Vivian Street took' place on Saturday afternoon in Ihe presence of a. large assemblage of Salvationists and friends of the movement. Commissioner H. C. Hodder had charge of the ■proceedings;, which commenced with the hymn "0 God Our Help In Ages Past." Colonel M'lnnes oftered praver. and then Mr. Gray Young, F N Z i... the architect of the building, presented Commissioner. Hodder with a silver key, commemorative of the event. The commissioner opened the, door, and invited all present to enter for the dedication service. The new hall was nearly filled. Upon the platform/ supporting tho commissioner, were Colonel M'Tnnes, LK-uten-ant-Colonels Bray,and Gist Brigadiers Colvin. Colledge, Toonicr and Kirk, and many other prominent officers of the halvatJn Army, also the architect Mr. Gray Young) and Mrs. Young. The service was a dedication o the building to the glory of God and the service of humanity. Commissioner Hodder' paid tXteTto the architect,: the bulkier, and the sub-contractors, and Mrs Hodder read, an.appropriate P orllon °, f S , crl Pf hire Then the buildings were declared open for the .spiritual blessing .of old and voung, after which the commissioner closed the service by inviting a'thorough inspection of the citadel. , < \ meeting held on Saturday night was principally devoted to giving veterans of ho Salvation Army nn- opportunity to compare the struggles and lack of convenience of the cnrly days w.th tie condition-! under which work could be done in the well-equipped new halls. Yesterdtvy. special, services were conducted bv Commissioner Hodder, assisted hv Mrs. Hodder and members of tho National Headquarters Btr.fi and visitors The morning theme was The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former," an appeal being made to the members of the Army m particular to consecrate themselves to the service of God and the great .cause for which the Salvation Army existed. Both interior and exterior of the Citadel have been altered almost beyond recognition. The facade" to Vivinii Street has a large circular headed window surmounted with n low pediment. Into the frieze above the portal is worked the word "Welcome" in gilt letters. . he floors of (ho entrance halls are finished in red tiles with black borders. Tho auditorium is a. spacious hall provided with a band gallery. The Young People's Halls on the .Jessie Street frontage, are 'three stories in height, with two entrances, one for boys and the other for girls. The ground floor is devoted to a large primnrv room with a beginners room attncheM, lined with blackboards and with cupboards for equipment. The whole of the first floor is occupied by the Young People's Hall—l 3 feet by 15 feet—and round the wnlls are twelve smnll olass-Tooms. On the top floor are two larger rooms, ono for eldor boys and i one for older girla.
