./ The legislative Council spent soma time on the Land Bill yesterday, and passed the measure without material amendment. Tbe Bank of New Zealand Bill wa9 introduced in the House of Representatives. It provides for the transfer of £1,125,000 from the reserve fund to capital account, the cancellation of the existing capital, and the issue of new -CI shares. The changes that are proposed have the effect! of increasing the State's-interest in the bank.

A special committee tojwhich the Mfijriage Amendment Bill had been referred by the House of Representatives recommended that the new clause added by the legislative Council, making it an offence for any person to auestion the validity of a kwful marriage, should be accepted.\ The matter was debated at some length, and the report was "talked out."

. The introduction of an Imprest Supply Bill in the evening provided tho opportunity for another loug debate on tbe cost of living. Tho discussion followed familiar lines. A amendment was defeated by 39 votes to 18. The Bill was passed before the House rose.
