WAIRARAPA SHOW
OPENING TO-DAY. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Cartorton, October 20. Tbo forty-third animal show held, under tho auspices of tho Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society opens, at Cartorton on Wednesday, and given' favourable weather a successful gathering is Anticipated. The Wairarapa Show tins not, m post years, been too fortunate as regards weather, but this has never marred the enthusiasm of the members of the society. Hflin has been falling fcjnco Monday, when preparation work in tlio grounds commenced, and at tho timo of writing the conditions do not appear too promising. 1 Stock has already arrived,-and at fi.3o to-morrow morning judging will ' commence. Tho total number of entries is not qui to up to last' year's figure, but flie stock entries show an increase. Horses show an improvement on former exhibitions, and there will be competition in many classps. Iu addition lo Wairarapa exhibitors, entries have come from Hastings and Ilawera. 'l'ho cattle section is better than ai previous shows. Among those showing purebred Shorthorns are Sir Walter uuchft'ian (Tupunipuru), Arch. M'Lcan (Hastings), !!■. D. M'Lean' (Marnekokaho, Ilawke's Hay), and W. Howard Booth (Carterton). Herefords liavo provided a . fair entry, and include representatives of tho well-known herds of Evan Jefferson (Wairon) and J). M'Keuzie (MasterAberdeen Angus are being shown by fiessrs. Burling Bros., E. Cresswell, and 11. T. Hume, of Mastertan. The Blooir.field Farm Co. (Uppor Ilutt), H, It. Green (ivairanga), W. Bcvan (Manakau), ; Cluny Friesian Farm Co (Trenlhain), H. Archer Bunny (Ahiaruhe),' Taumata Farm Co. (Carterton), and W. S., Gallon (Dalcfield) are exhibiting Friesians. Ayrsllires are a particularly good class, 1 oiul include representatives of such well--1 known exhibitors as Messrs. D. Buchanan (Tiakitahuna), W. It. Goodrich ' (Otane, ifawke's Bay), J. Tho class for unhoused Roniney Marsh (in tho wool in nature condition) has been well filled. Messrs. J. Martin (Martinborough) and D. Mathiesan (Carrington) are the only exhibitors of Border and English Leiceoters. Soutlidowns include exhibits from Miflssns. 33. INcwland (Masterton), W, Howard Booth (Carterton), and James Knight (Feilding). .Mr. T 0. Haycock (Moroa, G.reytown), is the - only exhibitor of Corricdalsß. The fanners' classes are well filled. , Pigs numerically aro about the same as last year. Mrs. J. Wall (Hastings') is ngai-n the principal exhibitor,. and ivill comjK>te with the Porirua Mental Hospital, Mr. J. Carno Bidwill, G. Warrington, and the Deller Estate (Carterton) Dogs are well represented. Tho W..F.C.A. lare the only exhibitors |of grain, and the butlpr classes are well filled. Tho clieeso exhibits are confined lo tlio Wairarapa factories. The homo industries, sewing and fancy wool clashes, are good. The school children's exhibits, which number 4<IG. will be a feature ,of tho display in the agricultural hall.
