THE POTATO EMBARGO

NOT LIKELY TO BE LIFTED. The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. W. Nosworthy) stated in the House yesterday that the Government had received a cablegram from the Prime Minister of Australia, in reply to a cabled question as :o whether or not the embargo on the importation of potatoes into the Commonwealth would be lifted. Mr. Hughes's cablegram was as follows:— 'J'ltil the report of the Australian exuert comes tio hand and has been considered, regret no action in way of lifting embargo can he takon. The Minister added that it aippcared to him there was .veiy .little prospect df anything being done in the direction desired by the potato-growers. Ho understood that the result'of the expert's investigations had been cablod to Australia some time ago. He could not hold out much hope to'the growers that the Australian embargo would be lifted.
