THE NEW ZEALAND NAVY
The Admiralty have (says "The Times") announced in Orders the nam>;s of tTie officers who have been selected for appointment to the New Zealand Navy, in accordance with the invitation for volunteers for service under tho Government of that Dominion. A memorandum is being issued direct to each of theso officers showing tho rates of pay and allowances, rates of income tax, and tho like. It is pos9ibli> that the seryices of a further accountant officer may be required, in which case selection will be made from amongst those who havo already volunteered. For the light cruiser Chatham tho officers selected are Commander C. B. l'i'ickett, Commander (N) S. B. Thomas, Lieutenant-Commander A. W. S. Agar,. V.C., D.5.0., Lieutenant D, G. 11. Hush, Acting-Lieutenant L. R. Homer, EngineerCommander W. H.Outfin, Engineer-Lieut. C. Marchant, Surgeon-Commander R. L. .lorfes, J3.A., Paymaster-Commander .T. Siddnlls, and Paymaster Lieutenant •A. Pigott, with six officers of warrant rank and above. For tho Philomel, the officers appointed are Commander J. G. Walsh. Licuton.mt 11. S. Darker, Engineer* Comnmiuler P. C. Minliinnick, Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander T. C. Patterson, M.B:, and Paymaster-Licutenant-Com-liiander 11. 51. Cockrom, with four of- , fleers of warrant rank and abovi,>. With the exception of Commander Walsh, the officers for the Philomel will bo accommodated in Chatham for passage. Commander Walsh has bejm since January 1919, Hie commander of tho coastal motor-boat boto at Osea. betoro which ho waa resident naval officer at the Piraeus. Commander l'riokett, at the outbreak of war, was gunnery lieutenant cf tho battlecruiser New Zealand, and for his lorvices in that veswl and tho Princess Royal, in the threo naval actions in tho North Sea, ta was promoted to commander after the Battle of Jutland.
