MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. J. S Evans, S.M., dealt with tho police cases'at tins Court on Saturday morning. James William Simpson, for whom Mr. \. I) Sicvwright appeared, pleaded guilty to the theft of it tobacco pouch valued at 10s., and n stiletto valued at 7s. 6(1., Iho property of Ja'tnes Duitlop, also the theft of two dozen eggs valued at is., the property of some person unknown. Mr Sievwright pointed out that accused had not been guilty of a dishonest act since 1910; the whole of his trouble was duo to excessive drinking Ho suggested that Simpson should be convicted and discharged and a prohibition order issued o.«ainst° him. He was a married man with two children. Simpson was sentenced to U day/ imprisonment on each clinrge, the tonus to be concurrent. iViurcncc Koenan, ft member of tho crew of the s.s Surrey, for whom Mr. J Hanna appeared, was charged that while on the high seas ho assaulted the chief engineer, also Thomas Dtinlop, so a3 (o cause him actual bodily harm. On tho ninilieation of Somar-Sergcant Willis he was remanded until Wednesday. • A week's remand was granted in. the Me-, of Willtelmina Blink, who was chirmd Willi being an incorrigible rogue in that tilie possessed insufficient lawful menus of support, . Vor ■ drunkenness, Hugh Kerrigan was fined lOsi, in default iS hours' imprisonment, and two first offenders wero leniently' dealt with.
