Fascinating Indian and Eastern goods will be for sale, and, in addition, there will be italls for tho saio of cakes, produce, flowers, fruit, etc., with fish poncls<us an attraction for the little ones. .Many novelties have been provided for the entertainment of those attending the bale . Mrs. \V. F. Massey will open the bazaar on the Friday, and Mrs. C. J. Parr on the Saturday afternoon. , . Mr and Mrs. Twlgg and Mr. and Mrs. Everard (Napier) are in town for the racM, Mrs. Fish returned to Feildiin* at the end of. last week from a brief visit to Wellington. Wedding at St. John's. A wedding of much interest took place at St. John's Church on Thursday, tho bride being Miss Irene Brown, eldest daughter of Mrs. E. W. Brown, of Lubinco, West Australia, and Mr. Brown, of Onslow. S Aj, and the bridegroom Mr. W. R. S. Allan, elder son of Mr. nnd Mrs. W. Allan, of Willis Street. The ceremony was- performed by the Rev. Dr. Gibb, and tho bride was given away by the Hou J. G. W. Aitken. M.L.C. The bride wore a gown of white georgette over satin, heavily embroidered with seed pearls and' handmade flowers of palest pink, all being finished by a court train of pale pink charmeusc and n beautifully embroidered veil and orange blossoms. Her only ornament was a pearl pendant, tho gift of her brother. The bridesmaids were the Misses Edwina Brown and Teenio Allan, who wore frocks of champagne, georgette, embroider" ed in pale pink, with hats to mulch, and carried shower bouquets of pink flowers and table streamers. ' The bride's mother wore a dress of bronze georgette over crepe do chine, richly embroidered in gold beads, and black panne picture hals. and carried a bouquet of pansies and roses. The bridegroom's mother wore a black taffeta costume, and a saxe blue hat with touches of pink, and carried a bouquet to match. ' The bridegroom was supported by his brother. Mr. J. A. Allan and Mr Norman Smale. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a gold.wristlet watch, and the bride's gift to the' bridesroom a gold signet ring. The bridesmaids wore handsome ncauamarine pendants, the gifts of the bridegroom. The church was beautifully decorated with palms, arum lilies, and Australian wild flowers. The reception was held at Allaiidale. the residence of the bridegroom's parents. The fable decorations were carried out in pnle 'pink, and the bridal parly sat under a floral decora tion of New Zealand clematis and Australian flannel flowers, with a pink horseshoe attached. After the reception Mr and Mrs. Allan left for Nelson and the
West Coast. The bride's going away frock was a costume of cream cloth touched with saxe blue, and hut en suite. The numerous presents included a silver flower epergne, presented'by members of the staff of Messrs. Veiteh and Allan. Sale of Work at Karori. A very successful sale of work was held by Mr*. Hayes, assisted by a committee of girls, at her residence at Karori on Saturday afternoon.for tho benefit of St. Mary's Homes. Stalls for fancy goods, cake?, sweets, flowers, etc., were plac ( e<l about the grounds, and their contents founrt many ready buyers. A numlw of visitors from the city attended the sale, including Miss Coaies, Miss Baber, Mre. Kemp, Mrs. Tripe, Mrs. Woodward,' Mrs . Towmend, Mrs. Burn. Sirs! iJonne, and Mrs. Nicholls In chargo of Hie stalls were the following:— Fancy, Misses Aleen Stevens, Hadiiold, il. ami B. Thomas; cakes, Miss D. Hadiield, Miss Hayes; sweets, Miss Withy, Miss M'Lennan; produce, Miss' Cornfoot nnfl Miss IT. M'Lennan; competitions, Miss G. Hadfield and Miss J. Withy. The baby doll was won! by M;'s. Clarke, of Karori, and the gold ring by C. M.
Spire*, of ICaruri The winner of the ncil-driving competition was MissPearce, mid Hie bean bag Miss Roberts Tea was served in the. dining-room, tlio arrnngenients being carried out by Hit. Van Slvke, assisted by the Misses Tnrton, Henderson, Frenglcy, and Wilson. Altogether a very pleasant afternoon was spent by those attending tho sale, and the sum of .CBS was realised as the result of the effort. Peace-time Activities. On Tuesday evening a rSeetinK is to be held in the Concert Chamber of tie Town Hall, under the auspices of tho .New Zealand Branch of tho British lied Cross and Order of St. John, for tho purpose of inaugurating the pcace-hmo activities of. the two combined societies. This is being done in accordance with the programme of work drawn up at ilia conference of Red Cross • societies Mil at Geneva last vear, and will mclndo hygiene and public health, with special attention to child welfare and, nbeiulosis and Other disenaes.
