HIDE AND TALLOW SALES

FURTHER DROP IN PRICES.

■ The fortnightly sales of hides and tallow were held yesterday by the various broliC MeEßrs. Dalgety and Co. report that offered an average catalog of all classes »o a fair attendance of buyers. Competition was dull throughout. a»V rlccß „,;™ all sound ox aiid cow hides and .yearlings wero 3d. to «d. lower, whilst cut and olin v descriptions were reduced as much as W. ner lb. All descriptions of calfskins wero lower by lid. to iiH. ~ The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd.. report that prices wero lower by 2d. to sd. per lb. for sound lots. Inferior hides and calfskins were almost unsaleable. Tallow was lower by is. to 3s. per owt. for shipping lots, tmd also by SB. to 6s. for tins and odd. packaueß. limn. Murray, Roberta and Co.. Ltd report that their catalogue comprised 1100 hides and calfskins. The market showed t sharp decline, and many lota of in-ferior-conditioned hides .were practically unsaleable. Sound hides showed a drop of from 3d. to sd. per pound, and a largo portion of the cataloguo waa paßsed In. Only a few lots of stout hidcii made anything approaching last sale s level. Calf nhowed a decline of from lid. to M. for best lots, while damaged and inferior dropped fully Id. to 6d. per pound. Tallow was in poor demand at Bs. to 9s. per ewt. below last sale's rata. • Messrs. Levin and Co. report, that owing to the unsatisfactory tone of overseas markets values wero seriously affected, it Beems certain that a lower Usu will have .to rule from now onwardd. but whether today's prices will set the main remains to be'seen. There was a general'decline of cows from 2d. to 3d., ox from 2d. to 5d., calfskins from Id. *-o 3d., inferior sorts no demand. Tho demand ror tallow was poor, and values were at least sb. to 10s. ppr ewt. easier. . ■ The Wnlrarapa Farmers' Co-operative Asr."ciation, Ltd., state that prircß showed a decline all round in sympathy with the world-wide slump. Compared with last Bale prlceß of heavy and medium ox hides were lower by 3d. to 4d. ner lb. Cow liidos were lower by 2d. per lb., yearling and kins showed a decline of •Id. to sd. ner lb., calfskins were lower bv Id. ner lb. for sound lines. Out and slippy hides and calf were neglected. Tallow showed a decline of about B'.. 6d. ner ewt,*. compared with last sale rates (in tlrjß). caßk lots beine withdrawn.
