.A conference of retail crocers from all parts of the Dominion wag held in Wellington yesterday tq discuss the Uiiestion of the urico of butter, i'ho ■delegates that attended were; Alnssi's. D. K. liabcriicld (president Christohurch Master Grocors'Association), D.Mairo (P. A. Cook, Ltd,, Christchurch), C. It, Patrio (Smectons, Ltd.. Auckland)-, A. W. Pago (president Auckland Master Growl's Association), A. Gcodlc-y, (Koslyn. Dunodin), U. Bead (W. Campboll, Ltd., Wellington), If. Ibbotson (Ashburton), T. Usher (president Nelson Grocers' Association), 11. I). Bennett (Wellington), B. Bolton and J: 11. Burley (Wellington). Tho conference carried the following resolution;—" That this Dominion conI'eioiieo of retail grocers places on record it* solemn, but emphatic, protest at the action of the Government in taking advantage of tho retail trado by compelling it to handle the butter business at a margin of gross profit so far holow working exponas. It plcdi-es its monitors throughout the Dominon to coutinue to do flll in thoir power to got consideration given 'to t]io justico of their demands. Jt expresses itself as fully conscious of tho power and strength of the Government, and the hopelessness of the case of any one section of traders making any attempt to comba is dooreos. And Anally, that this conference is of tho opinion that at present costs to tho retailer, tho price of buttor should not lio lower than 3s. .Id. cash, nnd 2s. sd. booked." A deputation subsequently waited upon the Minister of Agriculture.
