THE GAME IN THE SCHOOLS. ' Christchurch, October 22. Satisfaction was expressed at a meeting of the Council of the Now Zealand Cricket Association at the interest that is to be taken this season in school cricketing. The council had intimated that challenges for shield matches with th(i holders of the Heatheoto Williams Shield (the Pnlmerslon North High School) would .not bo entertained until October 1. So as to get in ahead of any other schools, the secretary of the Napier High School wired to the, council a challenge on September 30, at- midnight, tho telegram coming to hand on Ist instant at 9 a.m., just ahead of a
challenge from the Cliristclmrch Boys' High School. It was decided to give tlio Napier school fihp right to first challenge for a match with Palmorston provided it is played next month. . BOYS' LEAGUE! Tho Management Committee of the, Boys' Cricket' League met this week. Jfr. F. M'Olusky was appointed chairman, and Mr. It. Hendry was appointed to the committee. It was decided (o commenco matches on October 30, and it wis reported that about thirty teams would be entering, but moro than that number was expected, as entries do not closo until October 2G. The number of grounds so far allotted by (he City Council is fourteen, and it is stated that there, is a irascibility of securing more. To-morrow will see the finish of the Pctono v. East match, which' was commenced at; the Basin Reserve last Saturday. The other senior games to be completed are: Old Boys v. Thorndon, at KVlburn Park, and Hutt v. North at Hutt. Considerable interest is being taken in tho match Senior Colts v. Junion Beprosisntaliveß, which will be commenced at the Basin Eeservo on Monday. A good deal of controversy has raged recently regarding the standard of play in the senior and junior competitions, and this game should give sume idea of their respective, merits.
