.UNION COMPANY'S STEAMERS. Br Tolegraph—Press Association Dunodin October 21. The Tofua left Sail Francisco on October 18 for Wellington. She is due on Novomber 10.

The Katapol left Adelaido at 1 p.m. on Wednesday for Auckland. The Union Company's new steamer Cosmoß leaves Newcastle on Saturday for Lyttelton ana Oamaru. Thence she will eo to Port Chalmers to undergo overhaul and structural alterations.

THE LOSS OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS. The bamuentlnc Southern Cross has been officially posted as a total loss. The fate of the crew of ten men, including two New Zealanders, who left Melbourno on the vessel on September 10, is Btill uncertain. It Is believed that tlio vesßel struck on Reed Rocks on her voyage from Melbourne to Hobart, aim subsegueutb blew up. Charred lifeboats, the truck of the foremast, and other portions of the illfated vessel havo been nicked up in the vicinity of the disaster, but diligent, searches organised by the owners and •igents have failed to locate any trace of the crew. The Southern Ctobs wan purchased by Messrs. W. Auelisß and Co., of Melbourne, in 1918, for £5:00, and is said to have been insured for her full value.

POJiT NAPIER TO DOCK. The C. and D. liner Port Napier is to be placed h> dry dock at Port Chalmers this week for her tail-shaft to bo examined. After she comes out ot dock she will proceed to Hobart, Melbourne, and Sydney to complete discharge of her New York cargo.

THE ADMIRAL CODRINGTON. The Poverty Bay Farmers Meat Company's steamer Admiral Codrington left England on October I with a full cargo for South Africa. After discharge the vessel will go to Bunbury (West Australia) to load hardwood' for New Zealand. In consequence of the short time available in England It was impossible to get. a good deal of the cargo offering for New Zealand, and as South African charterers required full spacc the owners ivere unable to carry out their intention of taking New Zealand cargo.

WESTRALTA'S PASSENGERS. The Huddart-Parker steamer Weßtralln, which arrived in tlie stream at '/ ".1:1. oh Wednesday, from Melbourne, berthed at. the King's Wharf early yesterday mornlffg.
